Sifu Alan Nakamoto "My first recollection of Grandmaster James Shyun and Eight Step Preying Mantis is from a kung fu magazine article in 1985. It was not until some time later that I actually met Grandmaster Shyun in San Francisco, California. There was something genuine and authentic about him." Soon afterwards, Sifu Nakamoto's journey into the world of Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu and Shyun Style Tai Chi began. In 1999, he achieved a significant milestone when he became certified and recognized by the American Chinese Martial Arts Federation as a Sifu of the Eight Step Preying Mantis system. |

Sifu Daniel Miller Originally from suburban New York, Sifu Miller began his training at an early age. Climbing trees, using tree limbs as swords, generally throwing his body around like a little ninja. After studying the "Western Sciences" in college, he felt a longing for a more spiritual and rewarding pursuit. Remembering his "martial arts past", he started looking into kung fu schools. The mantis systems caught his eye with their mixture of quick hand strikes, grabs and deceptive footwork. He was amazed to find that Grandmaster Shyun Kwong Long had a school in San Francisco! After just one month of training, there was no turning back! Sifu Miller has been studying Eight Step Mantis since early 1998. |
